World's Greatest pink Pub Crawl

Maryborough smashed New York's world record for the greatest pub crawl on June 7, 2009, when 4657 people had their cards stamped while partying at the town's pubs.

The pub crawl might be a quintessential Aussie tradition, but the Queensland city of Maryborough has set the bar for the good old fashioned hotel hop at staggering heights.

Dressed in outrageous costumes, crawlers set off to the bang of an historic time cannon, and walk or ride a free shuttle bus around Maryborough's historic old hotels - all in the name of claiming the Guinness World Record for the world's largest pub crawl.

The 2009 World's Greatest Pub Crawl on Sunday 7 June was Maryborough's fifth assault on the title. Thanks to funding from Queensland Events, the iconic culture of the event this year included:

  • Tales and Ales - gourmet food and beer tasting appreciation evening at the Brolga Theatre on Friday 5 June with master brewer, Dr. Charles (Chuck) Hahn, founder of Hahn Brewery; and
  • A free outdoor Concert in Queens Park with popular Queensland bands Bobkatz and Screw Loose on Saturday June 6 from 5 - 8pm.

This year, pub crawlers were also urged to "paint the town pink" with proceeds from the "crawl" around Maryborough's historical hotels going to the McGrath Foundation - which provides funding for breast care nurses in regional areas.
